ANTM: Q&A With Destiny
There was a lot of tension between you and Kristin in the house. Did that affect your performance and/or your competitiveness? No it didn’t affect my performance or competitiveness. I didn’t really care about her. If anything it was just me psyching myself out.
What was it like working with Tyler Perry? It was really wild. I watch his movies a lot with my family. It was just shocking, and he’s extremely nice. He was so kind and gave really good insight.
How was it going out in public and performing at the character challenge? It was weird, nothing I would have ever done or wanted to do, which is probably why I didn’t do my best. But actually while I was out there doing it, I was thinking oh my gosh this is going so well, this is so funny. Like if my friends were here we would be laughing hysterically. But then I got back in and they were like, bad job, and I was like, oh I’m sorry.
You had to be what Tyra calls “Ugly Pretty” on the Zombie photoshoot… What did you find most challenging about that?I understood what she meant, but a lot of the other girls didn’t. So it was more challenging for a lot of the other girls, but I get it, you’re supposed to be a dead zombie. For me the challenge was my wardrobe, my dress was wildly tight and they were so determined to get me in it. So that was my challenge for the day – I couldn’t breathe.
What was going through your head when it was down to you and Yvonne?I was thinking that if I went home it would be ok because it was going home to someone like Yvonne. If I were to be going home to Kristin, even though she did make it, I would have been super upset because her picture compared to mine… That’s the thing, me and Yvonne’s picture was equally just ok. I love Yvonne. I mean it sucks and I was hoping to stay, but it just wasn’t my time I guess.
Tyra said the magic in your eyes wasn’t coming through in your shots. What did you think about that comment?I think she was probably right considering I was actually about to pass out because of the dress they made me wear. I couldn’t say that because I feel like she would just attack me, so I was like, OK Tyra, whatever you want in life is yours.
She also said you don’t understand your face – how are you going to practice and prove yourself to the fans in your second, comeback chance? All you can do is practice in the mirror and try and know your face. The thing is I just wish they would have taught us something instead of just being like, this is what you’re doing wrong. Then what can I do right, you know?
Can you define your style in 2 words?A lot of people say I dress like a boy, but I don’t agree with that at all… It’s kind of hip and street style.
Has being on the show changed or impacted your personal style at all?No, not at all. I still dress just as weird. I dressed less weird on the show. When I packed to come to L.A. it was tank top, tank top, tank top, shorts, shorts, shorts. No one really got to see my style, but I like it, it’s pretty fun.
